Ocean Structures Ltd is the company established by David Galbraith; I am now back full time with Ocean Structures following a spell at Sigma Offshore as their Chief Technology Officer.
I have worked in the offshore industry for over 35 years in a variety of engineering and multidiscipline engineering management roles with design and EPC contractors, consultants, and oil companies, My activities have included conceiving and managing a number of industry firsts, examples are the development of resistance calculation methodologies, the use of carbon fibres for structural strengthening, robotics for underwater repairs and pipeline assessment. I have been heavily involved in safety and standardisation activities for the last 20 years including ISO developments and fire and explosion assessments. As part of the Offshore Decommissioning Communications Project I represented operators in developing positions for decommissioning redundant platforms in European waters including liaison with politicians, the media and environmental NGOs. I am familiar with UK and Norwegian regulations and standards, particularly for decommissioning, safety and structures.
I have undertaken expert witness work for environmental pollution and insurance purposes and over recent years have assisted the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority with Structural Integrity Management techniques and auditing. I established Galbraith Consulting in 2000 and, following its sale in 2006, established Ocean Structures Ltd in 2008, however since late 2008 I have been leading a multi-discipline team as Chief Technology Officer for Sigma Offshore Limited, specialising in FPSO and FSO turret and mooring systems and in marine structures engineering.
I have particular interests in developing engineering knowledge and techniques and for the development of engineers and have authored and presented a large number of technical papers and occasionally lecture.
